Belagavi: In view of the 21-day nationwide lockdown, the Karnataka Government brought back 2442 Kannadiga labourers from the neighbouring state of Maharashtra on Sunday, March 29.
The government had sent 62 KSRTC buses to complete the Herculean task.
These workers had been stuck at the border as the Maharashtra government refused to let them pass through the border.
It can be noted that, after Kerala, Maharashtra has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
Just on Saturday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had urged migrant workers not to leave and assured that the government would take care of them.
All over the country, migrant daily wage workers were seen making their way home one foot in large numbers, ever since the lockdown was announced.
It can be recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on March 24, announced a nationwide 21-day lockdown in order to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus that has claimed the lives of over 20 people in the country.
