Belagavi: The General Secretary of CPI (M) Sitharam Yechury has said that a ‘door to door’ campaign will be initiated throughout the country against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).
Addressing the media on Tuesday, February 25, he said, “Condemning CAA, NRC, and NPR (and to create awareness on it), a ‘door to door’ campaign will be launched from March 1 to 23, throughout the country. Over 20 left-wing political parties including CPI (M) will participate in it. We do not oppose the census, but we strongly condemn NRC. In order to create awareness about how it will affect the Indian Constitution, a programme will be held.”
“While collecting the information for NPR, they (government) will also ask for NRC-related documents as well. If they do not match, then in the NRC list, that individual will not be added. At that point in time, that individual will have to produce necessary records and documents. The Dalits, tribal community and other backward sections of the society will not be having any records. As these people are more in number, they will get into trouble. Hence, we will create awareness among people about which questions should be answered in the NRC questionnaire”, he added.
Meanwhile, he also urged other states to join them in opposing the CAA, NRC, and NPR.
