Constable posted outside Belagavi DC’s bunglow shoots himself to death

Belagavi: In a tragic incident, a guard posted on duty outside the Deputy Commissioner’s residence ended life by shooting himself, on Tuesday late night.

The deceased is Prakash Guruvannanavar, 35, hailing from Kittor taluk.

He was found dead at the security guard’s unit at the entrance of the DC’s bunglow.

Police Commissioner B S Lokesh told Prajavani Kannaada daily that Prakash has been in service over the last 13 years and was deputed at DC’s bunglow on rotation basis for night shift since a week now.

“He shot himself with the SLR pistol. His shift was to change on Wednesday morning, but he ended life on Tuesday late night and the issue came to light on Wednesday morning,” said the Commissioner.

Prakash was living in a PWD quraters. 

He is survived by his two wives, two kids, mother and a brother.

While the reason behind his extreme step is not yet known, it is said that he was suffering from depression and owing to health condition his family had restricted his use of mobile over the last few days, said his colleagues.

Police are investigating the matter.
