Bengaluru: Within hours of the CBI’s raid on various properties belonging to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar, his lawyer questioned the legality of the searches.

Speaking to reporters outside the KPCC chief’s home on Monday, his lawyer, A S Ponnanna said that the legal team was not aware of the charges against him as the CBI did not give them any information.

The lawyer told the media that the Karnataka, High Court, on September 28, had granted an interim stay on the CBI’s investigation that was sanctioned by the state government. “It stands so until the next hearing which is in a couple of weeks,” he said.

Urging the media to “dig into the matter”, Ponnanna said, that these searches are being conducted without any information or explanation.

“Will there be a raid on D K Shivakumar every time there is an election coming up?” he asked.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided 14 locations associated with D K Shivakumar and his brother, Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha MP D.K. Suresh on Monday. During the raids, they recovered Rs 57 lakh from several people.
