Bengaluru: Here is one more example for how systematic civic activism can help people stop the controversial projects. In a major victory for the city residents, who were oppsoing a steel bridge between Basaveshwara circle and Hebbal, the state government informed the High Court that it has dropped the project.
On Tuesday, the state additional advocate general Dinesh Rao informed the divisional bench headed by Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, which was hearing a petition filed by the Namma Bengaluru foundation in this regard.
This Rs.1,800 crores steel bridge was proposed in the year 2017 by then state government led by CM Siddaramaiah. But civic groups had opposed the project claiming it will destroy the green cover of the entire region.
With this, a two year long battle between civic activists and the state government concluded with a victory for the activists.
