Three women from same family, 7 others test positive for COVID-19, total rises to 74-1Bengaluru: In a mid-day situation update on the coronavirus (COVID-19) spread in Karnataka, the state health department announced on Saturday, March 28 afternoon, that the number of COVID-19 cases has jumped to 74.

According to the statement, 10 new cases were detected between 5 PM on Friday and 8 AM on Saturday. Of the 10 cases, three are from Uttara Kannada, five are from Chikkaballapur and two are from Bengaluru. The youngest of the lot is 18 years old and the oldest is 70 years of age.

The three cases from the Uttara Kannada district (Patients 65, 66 and 67) are all women from the same family. Patient 65 is a 54-year-old woman and is the wife of Patient 36. Patient 66 (28-year-old) and Patient 67 (23-year-old) are daughters of Patient 36. They have been placed under isolation at a designated hospital in the Uttara Kannada district.

Patient 68 is a 21-year-old resident of Bengaluru and son of Patient 25. He has history of travel to London and arrived in India on March 17.

Patients 69 (23-year-old resident of Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh), 70 (70-year-old male Chikkaballapura resident), 71 (32-year-old female Chikkaballapura resident), 72 (38-year-old male Chikkaballapura resident) and 73 (18-year-old male resident of Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh) are all contacts of Patient 19. They are all under isolation in Chikkaballapura.

Patient 74 is a 63-year-old Bengaluru resident with a history of travel to London. She arrived in India on March 16. She is now in isolation at a hospital in Bengaluru.

The statement informed that, of the 74 cases, three are dead and five have been discharged after recovery.

The BBMP has issued a public notice to provide free food in the Indira Canteens for daily wage workers and the poor from 7.30 AM to 10 AM, 12.30 PM to 3 PM and 7.30 PM to 9 PM.
