Bengaluru: As explosives were found at the Mangaluru International Airport in a bag placed by an anonymous person on Monday, January 20, security has been tightened with a red alert issued to all airports of the country. As per the security protocols, the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is also under strict vigil with inspections being carried out by a dog squad.
Addressing the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East Division) Bheemashankar Guled said, “Security has been beefed up at KIA. Every year, on August 15 (Independence Day) and January 26 (Republic Day) security measures are taken to avoid any untoward incidents. But this time around, a three-layer security has been provided to KIA. At the first stage, vehicles and luggage will be thoroughly inspected. As KIA consists of two entry points, passengers will be thoroughly checked. We do not want to take any chance.”
Meanwhile, the dog squad carried out a thorough inspection of the cargo area at KIA.
