Surge in Covid cases: K’taka to impose 14-day lockdown starting April 27 night

Bengaluru: Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases, Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa led Karnataka government impose 14 days strict lockdown starting the night of April 27 till May 10, 6 am.

The decision was taken by the CM after a key cabinet meeting which was held on Monday April 26. The surge of covid cases in the state of Karnataka was discussed at the meeting. The highest ever single day spike was registered in the state with 34,804 new cases and 143 deaths in 24 hours, according to the data collected till April 25.

The expert committee on Covid had suggested to the government that at least 14-day lockdown is necessary in order to cut the chain.

CM B S Yediyurappa terming it as ‘Janata Curfew’ said that construction and agricultural sectors will remain functional during these two weeks and with no prohibitions. The curfew will be relaxed from 6 am to 10 am for people to buy food and other essentials.

He also announced that vaccination will be given to people above the age of 18 years free of cost at government hospitals.
