State sees biggest single-day jump of 7,178 COVID-19 cases; 93 dead

Bengaluru: Karnataka reported a record 7,178 new COVID-19 cases and 93 deaths on Saturday, August 8. This brings the total number of confirmed novel coronavirus infections to 1,72,102 and death toll to 3,091.

Bengaluru Urban reported the highest cases in the day with 2,665 new infections and Ballari reported 607 new cases. Udupi reported 313 new cases.

While 5,006 people were discharged after making a full recovery from the disease today, 683 people are being treated in ICUs across the state.

The breakup of the fresh cases are: Belagavi (302), Raichur (295), Kalaburagi (261), Dharawad (261), Yadagiri (200), Dakshina Kannada (194), Tumakuru (177), Koppala (163), Bagalakote (149), Vijayapura (143), Mysuru (138), Hassan (133), Davanagere (132), Uttara Kannada (117), Mandya (101), Haveri (95), Gadag (94), Ramanagara (93), Chikkamagaluru (89), Shivamogga (73), Bengaluru Rural (66), Chikkaballapura (66), Chitradurga (63), Chamarajanagara (62), Kolar (57), Bidar (47), and Kodagu (22).

The recoveries outnumber the active cases in the state. There are 79,765 active COVID-19 cases in the state. So far, a total of 89,238 have recovered and were discharged. Additionally, eight people have died of non-COVID causes.
