State registers biggest single-day spike with 216 COVID-19 cases; Tally now 1959

Bengaluru: Karnataka registered its largest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases on Saturday, May 23, when 216 people tested positive for the disease. This brings the state closer to the 2000-mark with 1959 cases.

A majority of the cases from Saturday have been reported from Yadagir, where 72 people tested positive for the disease.

The other cases have been reported from Bengaluru Urban (4), Mandya (28), Kalaburagi (1), Belagavi (1), Davanagere (3), Chikkaballapura (26), Hassan (4), Bidar (3), Uttara Kannada (2), Raichur (40), Dakshina Kannada (3), Udupi (3), Dharwad (5), Gadag (15), Ballari (3), and Kolar (3).

Earlier in the day, 196 people tested positive and one death was reported.

The total number of active cases in the state is 1307. So far, 42 people have died from the disease or from complications from comorbidities and two people have died of non-COVID causes.
