Bengaluru: In a major relief to the private bus operators across the state, including Mangaluru and Udupi, the state government permitted the bus operators to increase the busfare by 15%.
Interestingly, for the first time, the private bus operators are allowed to double the ticket fares on weekends and during the festival season.
Adding to this, henceforth the private bus operators can collect the toll fee from the passengers themselves. Earlier, it was part of the ticket.
As per the government notification, the minimum fare in these buses shall be Rs.8 henceforth in the urban areas. It will be Rs.6.50 in the rural areas.
According to the sources, as the bus operators have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, this decision has been taken.
