Bengaluru: Late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s aide Sasikala Natarajan has applied for remission and just maybe released before January 27, 2021, from Bengaluru’s Prappana Agrahara prison if the same is accepted.

Sasikala is set to complete her four-year sentence on January 27, 2021, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

According to a prison official, as reported by Hindustan Times, remission is considered in the case of good behaviour by a prisoner and is given according to the discretion of the officials.

Sasikala’s lawyer Raja Sendoor Pandian said that they had applied for remission and early release on November 19 and added that he had pointed out precedents in similar cases.

The late Tamil Nadu’s aide had deposited a sum of Rs 10 crore, the fine amount that was ordered by the court as a condition for her release.

According to the senior prison official, Sasikala’s application for remission and early release has been forwarded to higher authorities and added that there is no time limit within which the remission application should be considered, HT reported.

The report also stated that the prison officials are supposed to consider allegations of special benefits, which Sasikala has been accused of receiving.
