RTO officials seize 200 bike taxis with white number plates

Bengaluru: Around 200 bike taxi’s with white number plates operating under mobile app-based aggregators like Ola and Rapido, were seized by the state transport department, here on Monday, February 18.

Several of the two-wheeler owners were found unaware of the law that white number plate vehicles were not supposed to be used for commercial purposes, due to which they are now paying a penalty of Rs 2000 and get clearance from the court, as the RTO officials have referred the cases to the courts concerned.

All the seized bikes are now parked at the respective RTOs.

Around 56 bike taxis from Jayanagar, 28 from K R Puram and 35 from Yeshwantpur were booked by the RTO officials.

Speaking to one of the English dailies, the Additional Transport Commissioner has said that app-based taxi services like Ola and Rapido were running such bike taxi’s for business illegally and that the bike owners themselves would be held responsible for using the private bikes for commercial purposes.

According to reports published in one of the English dailies, the transport commissioner had issued a notice to ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd, under which Ola Cabs functions.

A senior police official from Bengaluru (South) investigated the matter and submitted a report on the illegal bike taxi service.
