Bengaluru: In a surprise move, CM BS Yediyurappa appointed revenue minister R Ashok as the Minister-in-charge for Covid 19 control in the Bengaluru Urban district including BBMP areas. DCM Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan who is a doctor by qualification has been ignored.
According to sources, it was decided to give the responsibility to R. Ashok keeping in mind the mass appeal and influence that R Ashok has in the city.
“He is taking all the major decisions including the seal down in the containment areas. With mayor Gautham Kumar Jain falling out with the BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar, things are worsening in the city. To regain control of he situation, now the CM BS Yediyurappa has designated R Ashok as the leader of the COVID19 fight in the city,” said sources.
Interestingly BJP high command had sidelined R Ashok to make Ashwath Narayan as the DCM.
