Bengaluru: Over 4,000 school children will take up a unique task in the city as a part of the Republic Day celebrations. These children will sketch the portrait of the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi at Yehlanka, Bengaluru on Sunday, January 26.
The painting activities will be held at the Hoysala Grounds in the city and the event is being organised by the Yalahanka taluk administration.
“This year, the world is celebrating the 150th birth-anniversary of Gandhiji. This 71st Republic Day celebrations will be celebrated in his name. It will be a world record,” informed local MLA SR Vishwanath.
Another highlight of the event will be the fact that 250 singers will sing the “Vaishnava Janato” song which was considered to be Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite tune.
“The celebrations will start at 7:30 am. Nearly 50 cultural troupes are participating in the republic day celebrations,” Vishwanath said.
“The local tahsildar will hoist the flag and several other events have been organised as part of the celebrations,” he explained.
