Bengaluru: The state government will supply milk to the for free during the coronavirus lockdown till April 14.
As per reports, this is being done as there is an excess production of milk in the state, which needs to disposed of.
Speaking during a press briefing after chairing a meeting with a group of ministers, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that the district administrations have been given the task of making arrangements for the supply of milk to the poor.
Ever since the lockdown, cooperatives like Nandini have not been able to supply milk to other states or hotels, resulting in an excess in production amounting to lakhs of litres every day.
The cooperatives have no other choice but to accept the milk from dairy farmers as they are unable to stop the production. Nandina had previously decided to convert the excess milk into milk powder.
