Bengaluru: Suspecting that immigrant minorities are staying in these shanties, the BBMP authorities razed down over 200 such makeshift residential huts on Sunday in Kariyammana Agrahara, Devarabeesanahalli and Kundalahalli pockets.

Meanwhile, BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar informed that he was not a part of this operation.

According to the sources, for last few days, social media was flooded with forwards that illegal Bangla immigrants are staying in these shanties spread across east Bengaluru. Most of the dwellers are construction labourers.

Meanwhile, activists including Vinay Shrinivas informed that they will hold a protest against this unauthorised demolition drive.

“This drive has been taken up without any survey,” he alleged.

Even police are under pressure now and City police commissioner Bhaskar Rao requested the media to allow him to work. “There is no truth in the allegations that shanties of North Karnataka residents are also razed. We demolished only those occupied by the illegal immigrants,” he said.
