Bengaluru: Eminent cardiologist Dr. Devi Shetty-headed task force has put forth the idea of opening the schools in a phased manner. In its detailed report, the task force committee has recommended that the schools must reopen in batches with older students joining first. And also recommended using outdoor areas like school grounds for holding classes.

Amidst the confusion of Covid third wave of hitting soon, the task force suggested several measures that can be adopted by the State government and educational institutions, whenever the government decides to open the schools with due consultation of various stakeholders. The task force has also called upon schools to divide students into batches, if there is a lack of space and suggested maintaining a one-metre distance between student-seating.

While discouraging any form of outdoor and extra-curricular activities in the view of possible flouting of social distancing norms, the task force has recommended an appointment of a counsellor and medical nurse in every school with the setting up of a sick room with basic medicines as well as protective equipment.

Before opening the schools, the management has been advised to clean and sanitise the premises and rooms properly ventilated. It is also recommended that the visitors to school be restricted and communication with the parents shall be virtual.
