No exams for intermediate sem students of PG, engineering, degree, diploma courses

Bengaluru: In a major decision, the state government has decided to cancel the examinations for first and second year students pursuing engineering, degree, PG and diploma courses.

The government has decided to conduct examination only for the final year students, keeping in mind the volatile situation that has cropped up due to the ongoing Corona pandemic.

This means, the students of intermediate semester in the said courses will be promoted to the next semester without any final examination and the students pursuing final year courses will appear for the final examination, which will be held as per the guidelines of the University Grand Commission, by September end.

The decision will be applicable only for this academic year (2019-20) and the same has received the nod of Governor Vajubhai Vala, said Minister for Higher Education Dr CN Ashwathnarayan.

The Minister said that the respective universities will decided whether they will conduct the final examination by end of September online or offline.

As far as the intermediate semester students are concerned, they will be promoted based on a comprehensive evaluation parameter. Promotion will be based on ‘Comprehensive Evaluation’ with 50:50 weightage to internal marks and the aggregate of previous semester marks.

Meanwhile, Students who desire to improve his/her scores will be allowed to appear for examinations conducted during the next semester. Carry forward facility of backlog subjects too will be made available.

Examinations for final semester/year students including for backlogs, will be conducted by the end of September, 2020, he said adding that the K-CET 2020 examination will be held on the decided dates of July 30, 31.

Further details on the process and schedule will be notified by the respective Universities, said the Minister.
