Bengaluru: At a time when Covid-19 cases were on the rise across the country and in Karnataka, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said that hospitals in the city ‘blocked’ beds in fake names to make money.

Hospitals allegedly ‘blocked’ at least 4,065 beds in false names to make a killing, said BJP Yuva Morcha president and Bengaluru South BJP MP.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said he will take action ‘mercilessly’ against the hospitals, their management, and government officials and will not spare anyone who is involved in it.

However, government officials in Bengaluru, according to Surya, conspired with private nursing homes and hospitals to block the beds and reserve them for exorbitant fees.

According to him, those working in Bengaluru’s BBMP (city corporation) war room receive all information about those who test positive, including whether they are asymptomatic or symptomatic.

If they are asymptomatic, they will be held in home isolation, but beds will be reserved in their names at various hospitals, he claimed.

“These cases are not just corruption as families after families are wiped out due to a lack of proper treatment. This is murder,” he added.

The state government took the incident seriously and ordered a police investigation. A  case has been registered.

Bengaluru city police Commissioner Kamal Pant tweeted on Tuesday that the matter has been handed over to the Central Crime Branch and two people have been arrested and others were being questioned.
