Bangalore: State Minister for Rural Development HK Patil has informed that a sum of around Rs 52000 crores was required to supply clean drinking water to rural areas of the state.
Speaking at the assembly, he said as only an initial survey has been done as of now, the exact amount required for the project would be known only after the completion of the survey. He also informed that financial assistance would be sought from the Centre and other funding agencies for the project.
The Minister further said in places where the borewell water is not fit for consumption, the plan is to supply water from other sources like rivers and lakes.
He further stated that a sum of Rs 100 crore has been released for drinking water projects during the current year. Two thousand units would be opened during the period for supply of clean water to those places where fluoride, arsenic and iron contents were high in the available water.
