Bengaluru: Hebbal MLA Byrathi Suresh had a narrow escape on Friday, October 18, when a man tried to stab him in a knife. His attempt was foiled by Suresh's security personnel, who overpowered him. He was then apprehended and taken for questioning.
The mother of the accused youth, who works as a maid in Suresh's house, has now informed the police that her son is mentally ill.
He has been rushed to a hospital for a medical examination.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Friday evening near the Kottanur police station where Byrathi Suresh's residence is located. "Suresh was on his way to Hebbal to attend an event. While he was leaving his house in the car, the accused crashed into his vehicle with his bike and started a verbal argument with the driver. When Suresh alighted the car to find out the reason for the commotion, the accused tried to stab him in a knife. His bodyguards came to his rescue," said sources in the Kottanur police station.
They added that the accused's mother informed the police that her son was ill and was under medication for a while, till he stopped taking them.
The police have now admitted him to a private hospital and are awaiting a report.
