Bengaluru: Private schools in Karnataka have written to the state government on Monday, seeking the reopening of schools for the students of classes 9 to 12.
In the letter addressed to Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar, the Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools, a collective of private schools suggested that “9-12th standard should be permitted to function, looking at the seriousness of pandemic spread.
Another suggestion by the collective is that classes be conducted only for three hours in the first month without a lunch or snack break.
SOPs (standard operating procedures) are also to be compulsorily maintained in all public and private schools, apart from daily checking and reading of the temperature of every child and teacher.
They also advised against mass gatherings and suggest regular sanitisation of the school campus.
“If any teacher/staff/non-teaching staff/student is suspected COVID-19, either symptoms or primary contact, what education institutes should do?” the collective wrote, highlighting the questions for which the state government needs to prepare itself.
They also asked the government to come up with quarantine measures for students and teachers in case there are any COVID-19 cases.
According to a report by TNM, schools are likely to remain shut till the end of the month, however, a decision will be taken only after the health department submits its list of recommendations.
