Bengaluru: Authorities of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) seized over 26,000 Ganesha idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) from various godowns across the city.

The raid was carried out on the godowns by a team led by board chairman Dr K Sudhakar who also directed authorities to seize six godowns used to store the PoP idols.

It can be recalled that PoP idols have been banned across the state due to environmental concerns as these idols are immersed in various bodies of water.

Later, speaking to reporters, Sudhakar said that a letter will be written to the police and transport department seeking their help to curb the transportation of PoP idols from neighbouring states like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

He also clarified that there is no ban on the use of idols made of pure mud.
