KKSA delegation meets CM, urges for Konkani medium of instruction in schools-1Bengaluru: A delegation of members from the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Akademi delegation met with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday, urging him to add Konkani as a medium of instruction in the state.

The Academy requested that Konkani to be used as a medium of education for up to Class 5 and be offered as a subject for classes 6 and above. They also requested the CM to include Konkani as a subject for courses like B.Ed, M.Ed, and D.Ed. To supplement this change, they have also asked for the recruitment of more Konkani educators.

The CM listened to the demands of the KSSA and said that their demand for elementary education in the mother tongue is reasonable according to the New Education Policy.

From the academic year 2007-2008, Konkani has been added as a third language for interested students till the 10th standard on an optional basis in both the Kannada script and Devanagri script.

President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Dr. K. Jagadeesh Pai, members of the academy Sanur Narasimha Kamath, Arun Shet, Naveen Nayak, and Gurumoorthy Shet, were present.
