Bangalore: State Home Minister KJ George has said that the state government was doing everything possible to crackdown the underworld elements and their activities in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
Replying to a query from Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, the Home Minister said in some cases assistance has also been sought from Interpol to trace the culprits.
Earlier, Sunil Kumar drew the attention of the minister towards the menace of extortion calls to businessmen in the name of underworld elements. The MLA also said that the arecanut growers too have been receiving threatening calls in the recent times and requested the government to form a special team to launch a crackdown on the underworld elements in the two districts.
The Home Minister informed that the Police department has been trying its level best to curb the menace.
Opposition leader Jagadish Shettar who too spoke, said the underworld elements were also active in North Karnataka and urged for steps to check the menace.
