Karnataka closes down wildlife sanctuaries

Bengaluru: The Corona virus has infected Asiatic lions in sanctuaries, whose deaths have been confirmed by the Central Government. On Friday, the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change released an advisory ordering the closure of all sanctuaries, national parks, and other protected areas with immediate effect and until further orders.

“All the protected areas were closed for 15 days after the State Government declared the curfew,” said the Karnataka Forest Department officials.  As a next step, an advisory will be sent to all divisions to prevent people from venturing into forests to prevent any virus transmission to wildlife, as rural areas in the state have also seen an increase in cases, they added.
