Karnataka clocks 14 Covid-19 cases in 7 hours

Bengaluru: Karnataka recorded 14 Covid-19 positive cases in seven hours, raising the total number of cases in the state to 124, an official said on Thursday.

“As of 5 p.m. on Thursday, 124 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the state which includes three deaths and 11 discharges,” said a health official.

From 5 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday, the state saw no cases, but the count shot up by 14 in just seven hours with 11 cases surfacing from the Tablighi Jamaat pilgrims who attended a religious congregation of the group in Delhi last month.

Across the state, 107 Covid-19 patients, including a pregnant woman, are in isolation at designated hospitals and are stated to be in stable condition, barring three persons. Positive cases No. 43, 101 and 102 continue to be critical.

Karnataka’s 111th positive case is a 24-year-old man from Mysuru. He was a roommate of the 88th case. The 112th case, a 22-year-old man, also happens to be a roommate of the 88th case.

A 14-year-old boy from Ballari, son of the 81st case, is the 113th case.

Rest of the nine cases, from 114 to 123, are Tablighi Jamaat pilgrims from Bidar who visited the Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi in the middle of March.

The pilgrims included a 48-year-old man from Bilal Colony, Bidar, designated as the 114th case.
A 30-year-old man from Lalwadi Road, Bidar, is the 115th case, a 41-year-old man from Shahgunj, Bidar, the 116th case, a 66-year-old man from Golekbana, Bidar, the 117th case and a 59-year-old man from Basavakalyan, Bidar, is the 118th case.

Others included a 39-year-old man from Paheli Chowki, Hyderabad, who has been hospitalised in Bidar, and is the 119th case, a 60-year-old man from Bidar, the 120th case, and a 63-year-old man from the same place, the 121st case.

A 73-year-old man from Kiramani Colony, Bidar, emerged as the 122nd case and a 45-year-old man from the same town is the 123rd case.

Karnataka’s last case for Thursday and the 124th case is a 60-year-old woman from Kalaburagi, a contact of one of the pilgrims.

All the new cases have been admitted to designated hospitals in their respective places.

On Wednesday, 287 people were screened for fever in the city civic body’s 31 fever clinics, the daily medical bulletin said.
