Bengaluru: Karnataka bandh called for by farmers and dalit groups, supported by JDS, Congress and Kannada organisations started across the state on Monday morning.

This dawn to dusk bandh call has been given in protest against new farm laws including abolition of APMCs, amendment to the land reforms act.

Over 7,000 police personnel have been deployed to maintain the law and order situation.

Meanwhile, the bandh received a lukewarm response.

In Bengaluru, Kannada organisations seized all the bus terminuses to ensure that BMTC does not operate buses. However, private vehicles are moving.

KR Market in Bengaluru wore a deserted look due to the bundh. Hotels are open in most part of the state. Autos are plying and all the cab aggregator services too are available.

Kalaburgi witnessed good response. Buses and other transport vehicles remained off road. Shops and commercials establishments remained shut.

Some resorted to burning tyres near Gadi Chennappa circle in Ballari.

Meanwhile, CM BS Yediyurappa requested the public not to support the bandh call as it is politically motivated.
