Bengaluru: In a shocker the major irrigation minister D K Shivakumar, the Income Tax Department seized properties worth Rs 75 crores, which were in his mother’s name, and notified them as benami property.

Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax and Director-General (IT Investigations), Karnataka and Goa, B R Balakrishnan informed that the seized properties include land and buildings. The IT department has alleged that these properties were bought without disclosing the nature of income and registered in the name of the minister’s mother to avoid action.

Balakrishnan also informed that the properties of three politicians from the state have been seized under the new benami act.

He also denied allegations that the IT department is silent on any party leaders. “We are acting against all,” he said.
