Bengaluru: An injunction order has been issued against four individuals for posting defamatory content linking disqualified Shivajinagar MLA R Roshan Baig to the infamous multi-crore IMA scam. The order came from a Bengaluru civil court which also directed social media firms Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp to take notice of the derogatory posts on their platforms.
The order was issued in response to a petition filed by Baig’s son Ruman Baig.
The people named in Baig’s petition are Nafeesa Khan (32), Sultan Hashim aka Haseeb (35), Mohammad Ishtiaq Ahmed (50) and Syed Mujahid (50), all of whom are residents of Bengaluru. Mujahid, who is a former BBMP corporator, and Ahmed have already been taken into police custody in connection with the IMA scam.
At the hearing, Ruman Baig told the court that the people named in the petition harboured ill-will against him and his father. As a result, they resorted to posting derogatory messages about his father on social media.
Defending his father, Baig said, “As he (Roshan Baig) was the local MLA, he generally interacted with Mansoor Khan as he wanted to help the needy. Apart from this, there is no nexus whatsoever between Roshan Baig and Mansoor Khan.”
It can be recalled that Roshan Baig’s connection to the scam came to light when he was named in a video released by IMA kingpin Mansoor Khan online prior to his arrest. In the clip, Khan accuses Baig of refusing to repay a Rs 400 crore loan taken from him. Baig has, however, dismissed the allegations.
