Bengaluru: We all know about national animal, national bird, national language etc, but soon, Karnataka will have a state insect too.
In a first of its kind decision, the state is expected to announce a state insect. Interestingly, the state doesn’t have a state animal or a bird, but it will soon have a state insect.
The state bio diversity board (KBB) has sent a proposal in this regard and as per the proposal, soon the state government will issue a gazette notification in this regard.
SP Sheshadri, chairman, KBB informed that an official declaration will be made soon to make honey bee the state insect. “Honeybees play a crucial role in increasing the farm production. They are farmer-friendly creatures. So we have made a recommendation in this regard,” he said.
Sheshadri who met the members of the National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources in the city on Tuesday shared the details with the central team.
