Bengaluru: The coalition of the Congress and JDS is starting to strain due to the constant clashes ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
After the Mandya and Hassan constituencies, the local Congress workers of the Tumakuru constituency are waging war against the JDS in the region.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has urged Congress leaders, Dinesh Gundu Rao and Zamir Ahmed to prevent the local party leaders from working against the JDS.
The CM has also expressed his resentment against the rebellion of the Congress workers in some constituencies.
Kumaraswamy requested the Congress leaders to convince their incumbent Tumakuru MP, S P Muddahanumegowda not to submit his nomination and support former PM H D Devegowda’s candidature for the seat.
The Congress had earlier, made it clear to the JDS that it will not leave its existing 10 seats to them. However, the JDS was adamant about taking the Tumakuru seat and the Congress yielded.
Justifying his actions, Muddahanumegowda told media persons that he will contest in the elections for the existence of the Congress party in the region.
He had called a meeting of his well-wishers and supporters to discuss the issue yesterday, before announcing to the media that he would file his nomination from the Tumakuru constituency as a Congress candidate.
The upset MP then questioned why his party leadership dropped him and compromised his constituency when they knew that he had done good work.
