GTD shocks JDS leaders by casting votes during Council polls

Bengaluru: The Legislature session has kicked started on February 17 and on the same day the much-awaited election to the vacant Legislative Council seat is being held.

The members were seen casting their votes before attending the session and one person who has left everybody shocked is JDS MLA GT Devegowda.

The JDS had convened a meeting of its leaders to discuss the matter that would come up for discussion during the session. The party had also decided to stay away from the  Council election.

However, what left eyebrows raised was the fact that GTD, who gave party meeting a skip, appeared during the Council elections.

After casting vote for the council polls, GTD straight away headed to meet Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, leaving the JDS top leaders embarrassed.

GTD even shook hands with DCM Laxman Savadi after casting vote as Laxman Savadi needs to win the polls to remain as the DCM.

Further Minister CT Ravi himself had escorted GTD to the polling centre. All this hinted at the possibilities of GTD having cross voted this time, as the JDS backed candidate Anil Kumar withdrew his nomination at the last minute.

About four days ago, GTD had dropped hints when he said that DCM Laxman Savadi was bound to win the polls and continue as the DCM.

After the coalition government collapsed, GTD often made appearances with the BJP leaders and the rumours were rife that he was breaking out of JDS and joining the BJP.

HDK responds

Former CM and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy has questioned if GTD is still with the JDS?

“I have no idea about GTD casting his vote. We had decided not to go in for polling. He has been making statements against our party. We do not know whether he wants to be here (JDS) or he wants to be there (BJP). We have to wait and watch,” said HDK.
