Bengaluru: Former Alliance University Vice-Chancellor (and complainant in the Shivaram Karanth Layout illegal denotification case) Dr D Ayyappa Dore was brutally murdered near his home in RT Nagar, Bengaluru on Tuesday, October 15 night.
It is believed that Dore was hacked to death while he was taking a late-night walk in his neighbourhood.
Dore, who was active in several social movements (including the Aam Admi Party and the Lingayat religious movement), was brutally stabbed with lethal weapons. The perpetrators fled the spot immediatetly after the crime.
The incident came to light when his family went looking for him after he did not return from his routine walk for a long time. The murder has sent shock waves across the city.
As of now, the motive negind the murder is yet to be ascertained. A case has been filed at the RT Nagar Police Station in this regard.
Police visited the scene of the murder and an investigation is currently underway. They are also examining CCTV footage of the crime scene.
It can be recalled that Dore was a complainant in the illegal denotification case filed against Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. In his complaint, the former VC alleged that during his tenure as CM in 2010, Yediyurappa had tried to denotify land acquired to form the Dr K Shivaram Karanth Layout by conspiring with officials from the BDA and Urban Development Department.
However, in a relief to CM BSY, a Karnataka High Court bench had stayed the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s investigation into the controversy on September 22, 2017.
During the 2018 Assembly elections, Dore had formed a regional party called ‘Jana Samanya Party’ and had held overnight protests over the construction of the Kalasa-Banduri canal project . Dore was also widely considered to be an expert in education reform.
