Bengaluru: Outgoing Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundu Rao, on Thursday, January 23, slammed the BJP and its MLA, Renukacharya for his controversial statements against the Muslim community.
It can be recalled that on Monday, Renukacharya, during a public event, labelled members of the Muslim community as “traitors”. “There are a few traitors who sit in mosques and issue fatwas. What is there in mosques? Do you (referring to members of the Muslim community) pray there? Instead of praying, you collect weapons. Is this why you want a masjid? Is this why you want a mosque?” he asked.
Renukacharya, who also serves as political advisor to Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, was distanced by his own party for his statements. Karnataka BJP spokesperson S Prakash said, “The party distances itself from such statements. He (Renukacharya) has made these statements in his personal capacity and the BJP has nothing to do with anything he said.”
Attacking the BJP, Dinesh Gundu Rao asked, “Nobody seems to stop Renukacharya from making controversial statements. What is wrong with the BJP? How can it appoint Renukacharya as the CM’s political secretary?”
“Renukacharya says the BJP will strive to develop only one community. Is this the kind of advice he gives to CM BSY?” he asked and demanded that Renukacharya be suspended from his post immediately.
