Bengaluru: Condemning the Election Commission of India (ECI) decision to push the election model code of conduct enforcement date to November 11, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao has moved the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday, October 15.

In the petition filed with the court, he stated that the EC pushed the date of model code of conduct to November 11, when it should have remained applicable from September 17 (as per the earlier schedule of the EC). He requested the court to reverse the enforcement of the code of conduct date to September 17.

Rao has also requested the court to terminate the state government’s move of appointing corporation board members inspite of the EC announcing the by-poll dates.

It can be recalled that the EC pushed the by-poll date from October 21 to December 5 after the Supreme Court questioned the decision as the disqualified MLAs’ cases were still pending.

The candidates have now been asked to submit their nominations on any day between November 11 and 18. On November 19, the nominations will be scrutinized and the last date to take back the same is November 21.

On December 5, the 15 Assembly constituencies will go to polls, the counting for which will be held on December 9.
