Bengaluru: Members of the All Saints Church and environmentalists held a protest and carried out a rally in the city demanding that the state government intervene in the Namma Metro work being carried out inside the All Saints Church premises.
The agitators alleged that the BMRCL is planning to build a tunnel inside the Church premises, besides chopping down 180 trees which have been grown there for the last several years. They also alleged that construction materials have been dumped in the Church premises causing problems for the devotees.
Guruprasad, a member of the Association of South Indian Churches, informed that all the rules have been disregarded by the officials in order to construct the metro infrastructure near the Church.
“The BMRCL is demanding 40,000 square feet of land from the Church for the Namma Metro works. A school for the physically handicapped is being run inside the church premises. We will not allow them to carry out the work. We want the Chief Minister to intervene immediately,” he urged.
Environmentalist Arun claimed that the Church is a heritage building and now it is being damaged for the purpose of the construction of the metro infrastructure.
