Bengaluru: DCM Laxman Savadi, who is also the state transport minister, was elected to the state Legislative Council on Monday, February 17.
In the counting that took place today, soon after the polling, he secured 113 votes, including the vote of JD(S) MLA G T Devegowda.
The election was necessitated following the resignation of Congress leader Rizwan Arshad, after he was elected to the Legislative Assembly from the Shivajinagar constituency.
It can be recalled that B R Anil Kumar was supposed to contest as an independent candidate in the MLC election with the support of the JD(S) and Congress. However, as both parties declined to support him, he withdrew from the contest, making way for Savadi’s victory.
