Bengaluru: The Karnataka Police, on Tuesday, October 13, registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. The development comes days after a Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Court in Tumakuru directed the state police to file an FIR against the actress for her tweet on farmers protesting the newly passed Farmers Acts.
The tweet in question reads, “People who spread misinformation and rumours about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformations about Farmers bill and causing terror in the nation, they are terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation.”

According to a report by Bar and Bench, the FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 44 (Injury), 108 (Abettor), 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153(A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).
In the FIR references were made to advocate L Ramesh Naik’s complaint where he stated that Kangana’s tweet termed the farmers protesting the Farmers Bills passed by the Parliament as “terrorists”. In the complaint, Naik also alleged that Ranaut intended to incite riots and disturb the peace in the society.
The FIR states that Ranaut’s tweet hurt the sentiments of lakhs of farmers and that such statements by celebrities will instigate enmity between different groups and will lead to untoward incidents, spoiling the peace and tolerance in society.
An investigation into the matter has also been launched, the FIR added.
