Bengaluru: The Congress’ state unit has decided to contest in the upcoming by-election for 17 assembly constituencies independently.

An announcement in this regard was made by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundurao.

Dinesh, who returned after meeting senior leaders of the party in New Delhi along with former CM Siddaramaiah, announced that the party has already started preparations for the by-elections.

“The common feeling among party activists is that in the by-election we must go together, but we decided to go alone. However, a final decision in this regard will be taken by AICC president Sonia Gandhi,” he said.

He also made it clear that his wife Tabu will not be the party candidate for the Shivajinagar assembly constituency by-election which is vacant following the suspension of Congress rebel leader Roshan Baig.
