Bengaluru: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has apologised to the people of coastal Karnataka for his statement that they had a low level of understanding and weren’t knowledgeable, here on Wednesday, March 20.

Clarifying on the statement, he said, “I have never spoken ill about the people of coastal Karnataka. It is the Bharatiya Janata Party which is trying to twist the statement.”

Criticising the BJP’s Information Technology (IT) cell on Twitter, CM HDK tweeted, “It is hard to defeat the BJP IT cell in matters of spreading false news. I have never said that they were not knowledgeable as they have proven that they are at the forefront when it comes to education and intellect. BJP is misleading the commoners.”

Earlier, CM HDK had said that the people of coastal Karnataka were not knowledgeable as they had voted for BJP in Udupi, Kaup, Brahmavar, Karkala and other coastal regions.

He had said, “If they want schools and colleges to be built, they ask for help from me and my brother H D Revanna but they vote for Narendra Modi.”
