Bengaluru: The green city’s e-club, an organisation affiliated to the Rotary Club (Bengaluru), has decided to use Ganesh Chathurthi as an opportunity to empower idol sculptors and their daughters. Under the initiative, the funds raised by selling eco-friendly Ganesha idols will be used to educate girl children.

The eco-friendly Ganesha idols are made from coir, mud and tulsi seeds. They are one-foot high and are being sold for Rs 75 to Rs 550. Once the idols are immersed in water, the tulsi plants will grow from them.

E-club President Chengappa Chottera said, “We have been carrying out this initiative for the last two years. In the first year, we collected Rs 45,000 and it rose to Rs 1.35 lakhs last year. The money collected by selling the idols will be used to fund the education of girls.”

“We are selling such idols across the city. You can contact us at 9741870088 for further details,” he added.
