Bengaluru: A Bengaluru resident, who was on her way to cast her vote in the Mallaghatta village of the Kunigal taluk, was robbed by unidentified miscreants who pretended to help her reach the polling booth.
Shantamma works as a cook in Bengaluru. On Thursday, she left for her hometown to cast her vote and was waiting for her granddaughter to pick up her from the Kunigal bus station.
At that time, a group of youth arrived in an SUV and informed her that they have been deputed to transport senior citizens to the polling booths. Believing them, she got into the SUV.
The youth then took drove her to a remote area and robbed her. After giving her Rs 500 to reach Bengaluru, they pushed her out of the SUV Kadashettihalli. The locals who saw her screaming in pain, helped her reach the Kunigal police station and lodge a complaint.
Shantamma lost 30 grams of gold, Rs 6,000 in cash and a mobile in the encounter.
The police have launched an investigation after verifying the CCVT images from the locality.
