Bengaluru: The owner of Bengaluru’s #BEiR was, on Saturday, arrested in connection with the death of two people who fell from the pub located on the third floor of the building.

The owner of the pub, Abhishek Kulkarni has been charged with negligence causing death.

According to the police, Pavan Attavar (36), a marketing head with a media organisation and Veda Yadav (28), a techie had visited #BEiR on Friday night and while they were leaving the premises, fell to their deaths.

The police informed that Veda lost her balance while they were leaving and when Pavan tried to help her, the two plunged to the ground below. The window frame was loose and had come off. As a result, there was nothing to break their fall and the two fell out of the building.

Reportedly, Veda died on the spot while Pavan succumbed to his head injuries at the Bowring Hospital later that night. Suicide was ruled out after a preliminary probe, the police informed.

The owner of #BEiR is currently being questioned and the police have also booked the owner of the Prestige RR building.

The police informed that the two did not follow the safety norms in the building’s bye-laws. The windows were not sturdy and the area near the staircase was not lit properly.

“Pub owners and building owners are responsible for the proper lighting in the staircase and corridors. Patrons who are inebriated will obviously find it difficult to navigate the stairs if there is no proper lighting,” the Cubbon Park Police said.
