Bengaluru: Deputy CM Lakshman Savadi is heaving a sigh of relief now with the defeat of BJP candidate in Shivajinagar and victory of Congress candidate here.
The reason is that Savadi had less than one month in hands to become a Member of Legislative Council and thus retain his DCM post.
As per law, a minister shall become the member of either of the houses of the legislature with in six months after taking charge.
All these days Savadi was struggling to convince party MLCs to vacate their post for his sake. All the MLCs had rejected Savadi’s request posing a big question mark on his future.
When Congress candidate Rizwan Arshad started gaining lead in Shivajinagar, it was Savadi, who felt relieved because Arshad will now have to resign from the post of MLC. BJP has a majority in the assembly and Savadi can get elected easily as an MLA.
