Bengaluru: Former PWD minister, JD(S) leader H D Revanna has alleged that the BJP spent a whopping Rs 750 crores in the recently concluded Assembly by-elections in order to secure a win in 12 of the 15 seats.

Revanna, the elder son of JD(S) supremo, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, was the party in-charge for the KR Pet and Hunsur Assembly constituencies. The JD(S) lost in both of these constituencies.

Speaking to the reporters in Hassan, he stated that the JD(S) will emerge stronger in the coming days. “The journalists have closed the party’s chapter many times. But the party is still a big force in the state,” he said.

“The people of the constituencies that went to by-polls were given false assurances. A huge sum of money was distributed. Everyone knows how the election was carried out,” he alleged.

“In Hunsur, the BJP distributed money like water. Still the party failed to win. It shows that the people can’t be bought by money,” he added.

“We will work towards strengthening the party from the base. We don’t have any remorse about those who quit,” he said.

According to sources, H D Revanna’s son, Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna is likely to be appointed as the new president of the JD(S)’ state youth wing. The position fell vacant after the resignation of Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of former CM HD Kumaraswamy.
