Bengaluru: On one hand, Karnataka has been reeling under heavy rains and floods, while on the other, it has been seeing violence in its capital city, Bengaluru.

Taking these issues as his talking points, former chief minister of the state, Siddaramaiah accused the BJP led state government of mismanaging the flood situation and focusing only on the Bengaluru violence for political mileage.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, August 19, the Congress leader wrote, “The whole state is suffering due to floods and its mismanagement but the BJP is only interested in gaining political mileage using the Bengaluru violence. Their failure to provide relief and rehabilitation for last year’s flood victims has added to the misery.”

In another tweet, Siddaramaiah, who is also the Opposition Leader in the state Assembly wrote that while the state home minister is surveying the flood-affected areas, the revenue minister “continues to speculate” on the Bengaluru violence. “Is it not the duty of the revenue minister to assess the damage due to floods?” he added urging CM B S Yediyurappa to direct his ministers “to carry out their work”.

Apologising to the people of his constituency (Badami) for being stuck in home quarantine after recovering from COVID-19, he wrote, “People of Badami are under stress due to floods. I am constantly monitoring the situation & also communicating with officers and our party leaders there. I am sorry for not being present there as I am under mandatory home isolation.”

It can be recalled that earlier today, many parts of the state were flooded after heavy downpour. According to India Meteorological Department, rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur in most of the coastal region of Karnataka and a few places over interior Karnataka. Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at isolated places over the coastal region in the next 24 hours.
