Bengaluru: The NITI Aayog has warned that if no corrective measures are taken, major cities of the country, including Bengaluru, may face severe water crisis in the next ten years.
In a report submitted to the Central government, the NITI Aayog informed that the groundwater level is shrinking in Bengaluru city at an alarming rate.
In its report, it stated that the population of the city is expected to hit a record high in the next ten years due to migration and other reasons. “But the water availability continues to dwindle,” the report pointed out, adding that corrective actions, including rainwater harvesting, underground water recharge etc. need to be implemented more effectively.
