Bengaluru: Tense situation prevailed in Bengaluru city on Wednesday, January 22 afternoon, when as suspicious object was spotted at a shopping mall.
The suspicious object, a suitcase, was spotted in a D-Mart shopping mall in Gottigere, soon after which, the staff alerted the police. The Hulimavu police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the mall.
A dog squad and bomb squad were brought in to inspect the suspicious suitcase.
Briefing the media about the incident, DCP (Bengaluru South) Rohini Katoch Sepat said, “The dog and bomb squads rushed to the spot immediately. No explosives were found in the suitcase. People need not panic,” she said.
She added that the suitcase only contained only gift wrappers and covers.
The incident comes close on the heels of a bomb being found at the Mangaluru International Airport. On Monday, January 20, a man, now identified as Aditya Rao, placed a bag containing an improvised explosive device (IED) near the ticket counter at MIA. Luckily, the bag was spotted by CISF personnel and the police were alerted.
The bomb was taken to the nearby Kenjar grounds and detonated with C4 in a controlled explosion.
